The rapid advancement of digital technologies has transformed global communication and business operations. However, with these innovations come the risks of cyber threats and data misuse, posing challenges worldwide. In Uganda, combating these issues requires a comprehensive approach involving legislative measures, cybersecurity awareness, and collaboration among stakeholders. Computer misuse, encompassing unauthorized actions targeting electronic devices, is a growing concern. The Computer Misuse Act of 2011 addresses this by prohibiting unlawful access and abuse of information systems. Furthermore, data misuse threatens security and privacy, emphasizing the need for safeguarding data integrity. Recent legislation, such as the Computer Misuse (Amendment) Act, 2022, strengthens legal frameworks to combat cybercrimes. Promoting cybersecurity education and fostering collaboration among government agencies and industry stakeholders are crucial steps in addressing these threats. Together, we can protect Uganda’s digital landscape and ensure a safer cyber environment for all.
