Telecommunications Engineering (TE)

Telecommunication Engineering has continued to play a leading role in all areas of development in our modern society today. Following the convergence with computer technologies, application of telecommunication engineering is no longer confined to telephony, public address systems, radio and TV broadcasting alone, but has also, quickly widened to cover all walks of life, involving, literally every living person today. The way we pray in church, learn, conduct business today has been transformed by telecommunication and computer technologies. The demand for technical personnel to maintain and service telecommunication equipment is on the rise, therefore, there is great need to prepare and equip school-leavers and any other interested persons the skills to operate, maintain and service telecommunication equipment.

The Department of ICT takes advantage of the strong partnership with professional organizations in the ICT industry like Cisco Systems, International Telecommunications Union (ITU) and International Institute for Communication and Development (IICD), to develop staff and improving its curricula. UICT has also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with African Advanced Level Telecommunications Institute (AFRALTI)

TARGET GROUP

The programme shall be for:

(i)     In-service technical officers and any other interested persons who want to build their career in the telecommunication industry.

(ii)    Persons in possession of UACE which meet the admission requirements as indicated below.

MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Admission to this programme shall be done in accordance with admission regulations.

A candidate shall be eligible for admission to the programme on meeting the following requirements:

Either: UACE with at least one principal pass in Mathematics or Physics and 2 subsidiary passes plus at least a credit in either Mathematics or Physics and 4 oyher passes at O’ level.

Or: A good UCE/O’ level certificate with at least 3 credit passes one of which should be in either Mathematics or Physics, and a certificate in a relevant discipline from a recognized institution.
