UICT Governing Council

The institute of information and Communications Technology is governed and run by the following bodies:

Ministry of Information and Communications Technology
UICT Governing Council
UICT Academic Board
UICT Administration
According to Section 77 of the Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act, 2001, each Public Tertiary Institution shall have a Governing Council (GC) which shall be a body corporate with perpetual succession. The GC is the governing body and exercises the general management of the affairs of the institution, and exercises general control of the properties of the institution.

The composition of the Governing Council of UICT includes:

A representative of Public Universities
Two (2) representatives of the Uganda Communications Commission
A representative of Uganda Institution of Professional Engineers (UIPE)
A representative of Kampala District Council
A representative of the Ministry of Education and Sports
A representative of the Ministry of ICT
Two (2) representatives of the academic staff
A representative of non-teaching staff
Three (3) representatives of the Students' Guild
A representative of the alumni (former students) of the Institute
The Principal of the Institute (who is the Secretary of the Council)
The Chairperson of the GC is appointed by the Minister responsible for education from among the above persons. The term of the GC is three (3) years.
