Electrical energy in form of diesel or petrol generators, solar panels and hydropower has covered most parts of the country, it is inevitable that the acquisition and use of electrical and electronic equipment by the populace, urban or rural alike, is likely to shoot up.   The demand for Technicians who are knowledgeable and skilled in both fields of electrical and electronics is on the rise.

Technicians are employed in the electrical/electronics industries which adopt quickly to the changing technologies, it is with this respect that the training curriculum must provide for the relevant knowledge and skills required.

The Department of ICT takes advantage of the strong partnership with professional organizations in the ICT industry to develop its staff and improve curriculum delivery. UICT has strong partnerships with Cisco Systems, International Telecommunications Union (ITU) and International Institute for Communication and Development (IICD), East African Centre for Open Source Software (EACOSS) and African Advanced Level Telecommunications Institute (AFRALTI). UICT is an associate member of the Research Education Network of Uganda (RENU).

TARGET GROUPS

Installation, maintenance, repair and operations personnel need knowledge and skill if they are to perform effectively and give long life to equipment under maintenance. This program aims to train a cross section of ambitious students who want to build a career in power electronics and at the same time be effective in practical hands on skills demand of the industry. School leavers who, for one reason or the other, fail to join the university.

MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Admission to this programme shall be done in accordance with admission regulations.

  • Direct Entry

A candidate shall be eligible for admission to the direct programme on meeting the following requirements:

Either: UACE with at least one principal pass in Mathematics or Physics and 2 subsidiary passes, and 5 passes at O’level with a credit in Mathematics or Physics in one sitting, or its equivalent Mathematics or Physics at O’ level.

  •  Certificate Entry

A good O’ Level certificate with a credit pass in Mathematics or Physics, and a certificate in a relevant discipline from a recognized institution.
